THE EIGHTEENTH CENTURY
may be, the Long Frimer Greek No. 594 and the Smoll Pica Greek N0.598 of our inventory
(figs. 344,345, p. 275) exactly match those in Rosart's specimens so as to leave no
doubt that he cut them.1
The [faft that Ploos van Amstel bought part of Rosart's stock explains] our
having two more of his types numbered in our inventory: the shaded Script Capitals
N0.820 (fig. 349) named in the specimen-book of the Widow Decellier2 Double capitale
financier and the Two-line Pico Ornamented Capitals No. 821 (fig. 350), or as called in the
aforesaid specimen-book, the Double médiaene ^enragée.
At the sale at Amsterdam in 1795 Hendrik Bruyn probably bought two types,
now the Great Frimer Ûaà Letter No. 822 and the Faragon Black Letter No. 900 of our inventory

[ 1 ] It is not clear what Charles Enschedé meant by 'Rosart's
specimens'. The Long Primer Greek is the Petit Romain ou
Germond [sic] Grec shown in the specimen-book of the Widow
Decellier (see List of type-specimens no. 126), and the Small
Pica Greek the Philosophie ou Dessendiaen Grec shown in that as
well as in Rosart's specimen-book of 1768 (see the preceding
note). Both types appear in Ploos van Amstel's Byvoegsel (List
of type-specimens No. 142), numbered in manuscript (cf. note
8 on pp. 134-135) 408 and 407 referring to G. J. van Rijswijk's
Lyst von Stempels (see note 1 on p. 197), which mentions that
these types were acquired at the sale of Le Francq.
