The Monotype Corporation Limited
was entrusted by The with the task of
cutting the thousands of patterns and steel
punches required for the experimental and final versions
of this renowned face. The Times New Roman Series 327,
with its related bolds, italics, etc., and no fewer than five series of related tidings,
was approved and adopted by The Times in 1931. One year later, The Monotype
Corporation Ltd. was permitted to place on the market the entire family (of
12 series, totalling almost 70 different founts) of this face which has been called
“the most important new type design of the twentieth century”.
