Willem Cupy, Amsterdam.
Hebreeuwse Letter-proef van Willem Cupy. Inc. : Canon He-
breeuws.
Half-sheet. Haarlem, Museum Enschedé, CTV 529, with a note
by Johannes I Enschedé stating that Willem Cupy lived at
Amsterdam in the Blomstraat, between te Ackelyestraat and
the Baangracht, and that Cupy owned also Roman types,
Italics, Arabic and High German.
Copy and Print p. 126. (dated с 1700).
This specimen was dated by Charles Enschedé as early eigh¬
teenth century (both in the Fonderies and стѵ). This dating
was followed in the list in Copy and Print. The fact that
Johannes I Enschedé annotated a copy suggests a much
later date. This is borne out by the information about the
dates of Willem Cupy's second marriage and death, brought
to light by Dr. Van Eeghen (see p. 298 note 1) and by the
fact that he sold his typefoundry in 1769 (see pp. 295-301).
