APPEARED IN THE LATE 1950s
ITS DESIGNER WAS HERMANN ZAPF OF STEMPEL,
one of the leading type designers of this century who combined
work within traditional techniques with an eager openness
towards the possibilities offered by modern technology. It is a
stressed sanserif with strokes thickening visibly towards their ends
and could be classified as a calligraphic roman on the basis of its
temperament, as well as being grouped with the modified
sanserifs. It was intended by Zapf as a text face and is one of the
types that established his reputation as one of the greatest
contemporary type designers.
