Galliard
IS A RECENT WELCOME
ADDITION TO CONTEMPORARY TYPO-
graphy. It was designed by Matthew Carter, who based it on a
beautiful sixteenth century face by Robert Granjon. It is a full-
bodied, audioritative face, elegant and legible in all its weights and
sizes. It has been available to the public since 1982, having been
introduced by Mergcnthaler in 1978. Carter used a computer to
add die odier weights to die basic face, which captures die vitality
of die original. The comparatively large lower case x-height makes
it extremely readable in text setting.
