BASKERVILLE
From 16th-century conquistadors to winter-weary
travelers in the jet age, the lure of Florida has been
hard to resist. Visions of magnificent beaches,
swaying palm trees, sweet-smelling orange groves,
jungle gardens radiant with color, exotic wildlife and
sun-filled days become reality in America’s sub¬
tropical “playground”.

Most activities are oriented to water, which is
seemingly everywhere. Florida has nearly 2,000
kilometers of coastal beaches and some 30,000 fresh
water lakes, including massive Lake Okeechobee.
Giant springs gush with clear, cool water. The
half-water, half-land wilderness called the Everglades
is fascinating to explore. Florida’s famous Overseas
Highway appears to cross as much water as land
along its 160-kilometer route from the mainland to
Key West. A chain of 32 islands, called keys, is
connected by bridges along the drive. America’s first
underwater park, John Pennekamp Coral Reef State
Park at Key Largo, has glass-bottom boat tours for
close-range viewing of brilliantly colored living coral
formations.
Florida’s biggest drawing card is fun-filled Walt
Disney World near Orlando. Other leading
attractions include Cypress Gardens with its water-
skiing shows, Kennedy Space Center’s Spaceport
USA, Sea World, Silver Springs, Busch Gardens,
the historic city of St.Augustine, Marineland
and Miami’s Metrozoo. Outstanding outdoor
recreation facilities include Everglades National
Park, the Ocala and Apalachicola National Forests
and Florida’s impressive network of state parks.
One of the beauties of Baskerville Is its versatility. Set here with plenty of
leading in the text, italic lower case letterspaced and used as display, this
standard roman typeface conveys an attractive, contemporary effect.
