around 1440, in Europe, when an innovative goldsmith by
the name of Johannes Gutenberg developed the art of
printing with interchangeable, cast-metal type. By the end
of the 15th century, the European culture, already rich in
Romanesque and Gothic expression, was at the threshold of
a Renaissance. Scholars and printers began producing and
packaging knowledge once hidden from public consciousness.
They gave thousands access to the great works of Socrates,
Plato, Chaucer and others whose minds helped drive
intellectual development around the world. Amd it is here
where typography as we know it was born...
